Panic Nation is an intense look at how state-sponsored immigration laws have taken a foot-hold in America. The film screens in Dallas as part of the VISTAS Film Festival this Saturday. Joining the filmmaker immediately following the film will be Dallas City Councilmember, Delia Jasso, DREAM Act youth activist Jennifer Cortez, Latino History professor, Dr. Roberto Calderon, and the publisher of Latina Lista, Marisa Trevino.

Facts and opinions documenting both sides of this volatile immigration debate are presented as the documentary delves into the history, reasons and the rise of state sponsored illegal-immigration laws and their effects. Former White House cabinet member Henry Cisneros, multi-award winning writer of “Sesame Street” Luis Santeiro, and multi-award winning actor Esai Morales are among the interviewees. Citizens, professionals, business owners and experts, tell their stories inter-woven with those of lawmakers like Oklahoma’s State Representative Randy Terrill, who fashioned America’s first state omnibus immigration law and precursor to Arizona’s SB-1070.

Ruben Navarrette, Jr., two-time Harvard graduate/syndicated columnist, a contributor to CNN, an expert on this debate and appears in the film states, “We have a broken border, we know that. But we also have a broken dialogue.”

Producer/Director, George Adams continues taking his film on the film festival circuit as he did with his last film, Torn from the Flag, on which he was the associate producer. The film about the fall of communism and the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 went to 17 festivals world-wide and garnered 8 awards including a run for the 2009 Oscars.

“The immigration debate is a highly emotional issue,” says Adams, “If I can get people to react in a positive way, a productive way, in addressing this issue, then the film will be successful.” Adams will be in attendance when he brings Panic Nation to Dallas where the film will screen on October 30th at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station at 3:30PM.
